FILLINGS

Continued enhancement of dental materials and techniques has virtually eliminated the use of the silver amalgam fillings to restore decayed or broken teeth. In our office, more lifelike composite resin and ceramic restorations are now the standard.

PORCELAIN CROWNS

Sophisticated computer-aided design and manufacturing has enhanced porcelain crown technology. Today’s crowns are strong and beautiful. The beauty of all-porcelain crowns is their ability to transmit light, creating a natural and life-like appearance.

Porcelain crowns are called for when the natural tooth structure is damaged to the extent that the tooth needs to be totally rebuilt. This procedure involves tooth preparation and impressions which allow the fabrication of the crown by a dental laboratory. A provisional or temporary crown is placed during the two to three week interim while the porcelain crown is made.

IMPLANTS
The refinement of dental implant techniques has changed the way that dentists think about the replacement of missing or irreparably damaged teeth. It has opened up new vistas for denture wearers. It is now possible to give patients back the beauty and security of life-like teeth in both function and appearance.

Dr. Gregory J Daniels is fortunate to partner with highly trained periodontal and oral surgeons who team up with him to provide implant services. They perform tooth removal and implant site preparation prior to implant placement. Dr. Daniels completes the treatment by providing the prosthetic (false tooth) replacement. Studies with the DuPage Implant Study Club keep Dr. Daniels up-to-date with developments in implant dentistry.

PERIODONTAL CARE
This is the treatment of inflammation and infection of the periodontal tissues. These are the structures which hold the teeth in the jaws. They consist of the gingiva (gums), and the bone into which teeth are imbedded.

Periodontal infection or disease is very common. Often it involves only certain areas of the mouth or specific teeth. Sometimes, all teeth are affected. Periodontal disease is serious and requires thorough treatment. Unchecked, it can result in tooth loss. Research has shown that periodontal disease is implicated as a factor in serious systemic diseases such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and low birth weight in infants.

The results of a routine periodontal screening by Hinsdale Dentist Dr. Gregory Daniels may alert us to a more severe problem which then requires periodontal therapy. Initial therapy involves thorough cleaning and debridement of the affected tissues. Special care instructions and homecare tools are introduced. Antibiotic therapy is sometimes warranted. Follow-up to this therapy is necessary to measure the efficacy of treatment. Conditions which do not respond to this initial therapy may require the intervention of a periodontal specialist.
